Since 1997 the Nutritional & Environmental Analytical Services (NEAS) laboratory has been a part of the New York State Animal Health Diagnostic Center (NYS - AHDC) in the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. NEAS is currently reorganizing the structure of the laboratory, and the tests that it offers, to be more closely aligned with the mission of the NYS - AHDC.

The analytical chemists at this laboratory have been testing human foods, animal feeds and feed products for nutritional content for almost four decades. As of June 17, 2005, NEAS will no longer be offering testing of human food, animal feed or feed products for nutritional content. The testing for samples that we currently have in the laboratory will be completed and no additional samples will be accepted after this date.

Of course, as part of the NYS - AHDC, animal related materials such as tissues, bedding, toys, feed, forage, etc. will still be tested for contaminants which include lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, aflatoxins and a standard screen for pesticide residues. NEAS will also be continuing to run diagnostic tests such as minerals and selenium in tissue, vitamin E in serum, etc. For further information, please visit the NYS-AHDC webpage at the link noted below.
