Materials for Research
Animal Reference Plasmas
Assayed reference plasmas are prepared from the following species: cat, cow, dog, goat, guinea pig, horse, rat and sheep.
Normal reference plasmas serve as coagulation controls for activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), prothrombin time (PT), thrombin clotting time (TCT) and fibrinogen assays.
Specific assayed reference plasmas are also available for clotting factors (fibrinogen, factors II-XII), antithrombin III, plasminogen and von Willebrand factor.
In Vivo Studies
The Comparative Coagulation Laboratory maintains a colony of dogs having hemostatic defects. These dogs represent naturally occurring animal models of specific disorders including hemophilia A (factor VIII deficiency), hemophilia B (factor IX deficiency), type 1, 2, and 3 von Willebrand disease, Glanzmann's thrombasthenia and thrombopathia. These dogs are available, on a limited basis, for special in vivo studies.
