Cytology Report
|
| |
| |
| Our standard cytology report is for all aspirates collected from
body tissues, e.g. liver, lymph nodes, and for all fluids in which
cell counts are not performed, e.g. fluid from a cystic mass, bile,
etc. When fluids are aspirated from a mass or cystic lesion, the fluid
should always be submitted in EDTA for cytologic evaluation. If the
fluid is very bloody or culture is possible, a small amount of fluid
should also be placed in a non-anticoagulant or red-top tube. In general,
fluid samples are quite stable for at least 24 hours after collection
(if kept refrigerated). |

Fungal keratitis in a corneal scraping from a horse. There are many
branching hyphae, compatible with Aspergillosis species. In addition,
the horse has a septic keratitis, with neutrophils (arrowheads)
and chains of Streptococci (arrow).
