Cytology Report

Our standard cytology report is for all aspirates collected from body tissues, e.g. liver, lymph nodes, and for all fluids in which cell counts are not performed, e.g. fluid from a cystic mass, bile, etc. When fluids are aspirated from a mass or cystic lesion, the fluid should always be submitted in EDTA for cytologic evaluation. If the fluid is very bloody or culture is possible, a small amount of fluid should also be placed in a non-anticoagulant or red-top tube. In general, fluid samples are quite stable for at least 24 hours after collection (if kept refrigerated).
