Crystals in urine |
|||
| Most often, crystals in routine urine sediment
preps are without significance. Several different types can be seen in
normal samples. A few specific types, however, can be important in certain
clinical situations. Shown at right are ammonium biurate ("thorny apple") crystals. These are frequently a pathologic finding (indicating liver insufficiency or portosystemic shunting) in dogs and cats. They can, however, be seen in normal Dalmations and English Bulldogs. The sections on crystals in the Urine Sediment Atlas contain more detail regarding crystals in urine. |
