Debris in Urine
This field is used to report the presence of extraneous contaminating materials observed
during the microscopic examination of the urine sediment.
Pollens, mold spores, glove powder, and fibers of various types are among the more common sorts of
materials referred to by this section.
Generally, such material is significant only as an indication of the
conditions of collection and/or handling of the specimen prior to analysis.
Debris is more frequently seen in voided urine samples or those collected
off the floor or from litter trays. On occasion, confusion may arise
if these are mistaken for findings of significance (casts, parasites,
etc.).
